ITC Presents Pakistan’s Trade Model at WTO Headquarters in Geneva

At the World Trade Organization (WTO) headquarters in Geneva, Dr. Azam Amjad Chaudhry (Pro-Rector and WTO Chair for Pakistan) and Dr. Moazam Mahmood showcased Pakistan’s Trade Model, developed by the ITC Modeling Lab team—Amna Noor Fatima, Sara Qasim, and Anoosha Liaqat. The constraint-based model links Pakistan’s external trade dynamics with domestic investment and consumption, offering a detailed view of the country's structural economic dependencies.

Key insights revealed that GDP growth exceeding 5% leads to a sharp rise in capital goods imports, heightening external imbalances unless consumer imports are managed and capital/intermediate goods are strategically facilitated. The presentation attracted strong interest from WTO Chairs representing Türkiye, Qatar, Oman, Vietnam, and other countries, paving the way for regional collaboration, curriculum development, and faculty exchange initiatives.

This engagement positions the Lahore School of Economics as a leading voice in applied trade modeling within the global WTO Chairs Programme.
